In the Land of our Fathers
From the beginning of the Order missionary activity has always been an integral part of the Charism and of its spirituality. We can even affirm that the missionary work always had a privileged place for the sons of St. Teresa.
The Carmelite rule invites us to live in the listening to the Word of God and this word, good news, demands to be witnessed and proclaimed to announce the message of Jesus to all.
Teresa of Jesus in “refounding” Carmel underlined the importance of the missionary zeal that inflamed in her, and wanted her sons to work also in the missionary activity.
The Teresian Carmelites following the counsel and the mandate of Teresa of Jesus, started already in the 16th century to work in the missions and irrigated with their ardour and when necessary, with their own blood, the missions entrusted to them in Congo and the Orient. Those who, with their efforts and advice, contributed greatly in the foundation of the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith, were also sons of S. Teresa .
To day the vitality of the engagements of Theresian Carmel in the “missionary apostolate” is concretised in various continents: Africa - Madagascar, Asia, the Middle - East, Latin America.
We seek with mature fidelity, looking the past and at the present and the future, to renew this service of evangelisation, that flows from contemplative experience of God which nourishes it working for the history of humanity.
